I watched the CNN Heroes as presented by Anderson Cooper with mixed emotions. It was great to see that there is still so much good being done around the world. It is even more thrilling to witness a mainstream network acknowledge the people that do these good deeds publicly.
Far too often, positive messages are stifled by the mainstream and the public is never made aware that these positive things occur. It is as if there's no room in regular programming for positive message.
On nearly every hip hop message board or forum, there are fans of music complaining that the hip hop music that's being publicized is crap and should not see the light of day. However, if you follow mainstream media - radio, MTV, BET, etc. only one aspect of rap music is given airplay. This leaves the viewer to believe that this type of hip hop is all that is available.
Rappers like NAS, Talib Kweli, Jair Dynast and Common are seldom featured and seldom during peak periods of viewing. Music fans have to come to terms with what type of music they want to listen to on their mp3s or iPods. Rather than mouthing off on hip hop forums, it is far better to search online for rappers whose lyrics are thought-provoking, motivating and inspiring.
If you like hip hop with banging beats and a rapper that can tell a story so cleverly that you do not even realize, then you need to join us on this rap music community every month to share this wonderful experience. Don't be selfish, share it, tell your friends to come here and spread it online.
